Radiohead Music & the Silent Film ‘Nosferatu’ Are Being Paired for An Epic Movie Experience

A company called Silents Synced is joining together beloved movies and music in a brand-new way. They are working on pairing classic albums with silent movies, making it a unique viewing experience and the films will be shown at drive-ins and indoor theaters across the United States. The first pairing in the series is two Radiohead albums (2000’s KID A and 2001’s Amnesiac) with the 1922 horror movie Nosferatu.
Josh Frank, the creator of Silents Synced said it is “a communal music experience like no other” and is a way to bring movie and music fans together. The new Radiohead and Nosferatu mashup will be available this fall starting October 4, 2024, just in time for spooky season and Frank said that fans can expect a new release every four months. Up next is the silent film Sherlock Jr. with the music of R.E.M. After that, they hope to use music from artists such as Pearl Jam, They Might Be Giants, Pixies and Amon Tobin.
It is a way to pay tribute to both the nostalgic music and silent films of the past and remember that silent films weren’t always so silent. Before sound in film, movies were accompanied by live music, often an organist. Unfortunately, many of those scores have been lost over the years so the movies remained silent for future viewings. This is a way to pay homage to those live performers in a way.

While this is a new concept, it isn’t the first time something like this has been done. Back in 1984, music producer Giorgio Moroder created a new edit of 1927’s Metropolis with a new score and songs by Bonnie Tyler, Pat Benatar and Freddie Mercury, which led to a new interest in creating music for silent movies.

Don’t forget, Nosferatu is getting a remake this year too starring Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It will premiere on Christmas Day. Stay tuned for more details on where you can watch the Radiohead/Nosferatu mashup.
