Shirley MacLaine Teases New Memoir on Her 90th Birthday
Shirley MacLaine surprised her fans on her 90th birthday. Born on April 24, 1934, the actor and dancer announced that she has written a book featuring over 150 photos from her personal archives as well as stories from her impressive career and life. The book, called The Wall of Life, will be released on October 22, 2024.
MacLaine opened up about the book, “I have lived a wonderful life and I wanted to share it. All of the photos brought back such wonderful memories.” She added that she had the idea for a photo book from a wall of photos she kept up in her home in Malibu. She continued, “About 45 years ago, I put ten or so framed photographs of friends and family and people I’ve worked with all grouped together on a living room wall. Everyone who came over loved to look at this montage, and so The Wall of Life was born. I’m pleased to share a selection of these photos — and some of the stories behind them — in this book.”
As far as her birthday goes, she plans to have a small dinner with friends and hopes to “eat something good.” Despite turning 90, MacLaine shows no signs of slowing down and is set to begin filming a new movie called People Not Places, set in Atlantic City, very soon. She said that she is very grateful that she continues to work and is so happy to have her friends and be healthy at 90.
MacLaine previously wrote a memoir called Out on a Limb in 1986, which became a New York Times bestseller. The book shares memories from her childhood, her early years on Broadway and the start of her career in Hollywood, as well as stories from motherhood. She is best known for her roles in films such as The Apartment and Sweet Charity, as well as earning an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Terms of Endearment in 1983.
Happy birthday, Shirley!
