It’s that time of year again when the most prestigious award an actor can receive will be handed out: the Oscar. But with every yin, there is a yang, and in this case, there is an award handed out to honor an actor’s worst performance: a Razzie. Some actors have had the honor of winning them both. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Tom Hanks

The tw0-time, back-to-back Oscar winner for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994) won two of the not-so-prestigious honors, for Worst Supporting Actor and in 2023 for his portrayal of Col. Parker in the otherwise Oscar-nominated movie Elvis (2022). He was nominated for Worst Actor too, for Pinocchio (2022).

Halle Berry

Berry won a Razzie for her sexy portrayal of Catwoman in 2004 and was the first actress ever to accept the award in person. Just three years prior, she won an Oscar for Monster’s Ball (2001) and set history there too, as she was the first African American woman to win for Best Actress.

Sandra Bullock

Bullock is one of the rare cases who won both awards in the same year! Winning for Worst Actress in All About Steve (2009) and Best Actress in The Blind Side (2009). She, like Berry, also went to accept the Razzie Award in person.

Marlon Brando

One of the greatest actors of all time had a total of eight Oscar nominations that got him two wins, for On the Waterfront (1954) and The Godfather (1972). But even icons can do bad movies, such as The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996), which won him a Razzie for Worst Actor.

Leonardo DiCaprio

The six-time Oscar nominee won the statue for The Revenant in 2016, but was honored with a Razzie for Worst Screen Couple in The Man in the Iron Mask (1998).

Kevin Costner

ROBIN HOOD: Dances With Wolves; PRINCE OF THIEVES, Kevin Costner, 1991

Another Hollywood heavyweight, the future Yellowstone star surprisingly has had more Razzie nominations and wins (11 total) than Oscars, having only won for Dances With Wolves (1990). Razzie wins include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Wyatt Earp (1994) and The Postman (1997).

Mel Gibson

The Braveheart star won two Oscars for the 1995 film: Best Director and Best Picture. Flash-forward to 2018, when he won Worst Actor for Daddy’s Home 2, and is up again this year for Confidential Informant (2023).

Honorable Mentions

Eddie Murphy

Dreamgirls (2006) earned the actor an Oscar nomination, but it was the four Razzies he won that made Murphy go into hiding and hang up acting for a bit. He won for Norbit (2007), The Adventures of Pluto Nash and Meet Dave, and for Worst Actor of the Decade in 2010 for the 2000s.

Sylvester Stallone

While he hasn’t technically won an Oscar, he has been nominated three times for his portrayal of Rocky. However, he is the record holder of Razzies, with a total of 10 wins and could be adding another as he is nominated this year for Expendables 4. Next in line is Madonna, with nine.

The Oscars will air on March 10 at 6pm ET and the “winners” of 44th Razzies will be announced on March 9.
