The best new game show of the year came to an end last night when FOX’s The Floor crowned its winner. Series host and producer Rob Lowe awarded the whopping $250,000 last night in the two-hour season finale.

The battle began 10 weeks ago on Jan. 2, 2024 when 81 contestants took their place on a gigantic game show floor, each contestant declaring their area of expertise and standing ready to duel it out with any contestant who dared challenge them. The winner of each timed, head-to-head trivia battle took over their opponent’s square on the floor, while the loser was sent home.

Only nine contestants remained going into the season finale’s final hour and their categories were Hobbies, Olympic Events, U.S. States, Athletes, Fashion Icons, Country Music, Best Picture Winners, International Foods and Plants.

SPOILERS AHEAD. Over the span of the game show, a few “whales” (contestants who took over the majority of the game floor) came to the forefront including Gene (40), a theme park performer, and Matthew (27), a basketball coach from Arizona. The finale found those two battling it out in the first dual of the final hour on Athletes, with Matthew succeeding and keeping the category of Fashion Icons he inherited (an inherited category no one seemed to want to dual over).

Matthew made an exceptional run on The Floor but was defeated in the category of Best Picture Winners by Arthur (40), a design manager. The pressure definitely was palpable as Matthew missed one of greatest classic films in history — 1942’s Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. He also struggled with Driving Miss Daisy and The English Patient.

Once Arthur took over the lead he had Hobbies, International Foods, Country Music and Plants as dual options. He easily won Hobbies (despite his opponent Joanie only missing one hobby – Podcasting).

He went on to challenge Alahna (25), a student, in Country Music. Some huge misses in that category were Garth Brooks, The Judds, Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan, Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride. Arthur, however, once again, prevailed leaving just two contestants left for him to challenge — Riley (Plants) and Jacqueline (International Foods).

Arthur picked Plants.  Some of the misses in that category were Venus Flytrap, Daffodil, Honeysuckle, Pansy, Lily, Baobab Tree and Delphinium, but Arthur was able to keep his streak going in another intense showdown.

Ultimately Arthur “Von” Vonwerssowetz choose Fashion Icons over International Foods for the final season dual of The Floor. He went head-to-head with the lime-green, satin dressed Jacquelyn Kenny (you got to the know contestants week over week by their outfits). It was a costly move as he missed a series of Fashion Icons including Cindy Crawford, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Coco Chanel, Virgil Abloh and Betsey Johnson (pictured below).

Jacquelyn Kenny (31), whose career was identified as experimental marketing, took home the $250,000 and was crowned the first winner of The Floor.

Will The Floor be renewed for a new season?

While it hasn’t been announced yet, it’s highly likely the game show will return.
