The Peanuts gang is hoping to right a wrong. Apple TV+ is presenting a brand-new Peanuts special called Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin, premiering on February 16, 2024. The new special will share the origin story of the first Black Peanuts character, Franklin, who was introduced over 50 years ago. In the 1973 film A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Franklin was introduced but was segregated from the rest of the group during the Thanksgiving dinner scene, which fans called blatant racism.

When the trailer for the upcoming special was released, many fans flocked to social media to share their happiness that Peanuts fixed this and how it was a long time coming. In the trailer, all of the Peanuts gang are eating pizza and they tell Franklin to come over and sit with them. Some even noted the significance of it coming out in February, during Black History Month. Unfortunately for cable users, the special, along with other Peanuts films, are only available on the streaming service Apple TV+.

The special follows Franklin Armstrong, a new kid in town who is trying to make friends. As a military kid, he moves around a lot with his family and often struggles to fit in. To help his anxieties, he brings along a notebook with his grandfather’s advice on friendship. He soon learns about a soap box derby race in town and becomes teamed up with Charlie Brown, striking a wonderful friendship. The special stars voice artists Caleb Bellavance as Franklin, Etienne Kellici as Charlie Brown, and Terry McGurrin as Snoopy.

If you’re not signed up with Apple TV+ yet, you can get a free trial. After that, it costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year. Will you be watching Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin? It certainly sounds adorable and something necessary for the Peanuts franchise! Watch the trailer and let us know what you think ahead of its premiere.
