Jeff Bridges has had a tough couple of years. In 2021, he got a particularly bad case of COVID-19 while he was receiving cancer treatments. The 74-year-old feared this would be the end for him and even as he slowly recovered, he was unsure if he would ever be able to act again. Then, he got the opportunity to star in the series The Old Man and while he was worried about it, he said that everyone working on the show was “so considerate” about his condition.

He shared that he “needed oxygen occasionally” when he came back to the set. During Bridges’ recent appearance at The Old Man panel during the TCA Summer 2024 Press Tour event in Pasadena, California with costar John Lithgow, Lithgow added that they felt they had to watch over Bridges when he first came back.

Lithgow explained, “He was so relaxed about it. He put everybody else at ease. Everyone at first was so watchful and nervous, and just put everyone at ease.” Bridges piped in, “You just do your best and that’s all you can do. It’s something so great, actors working with actors, being a fraternity, a sorority … You’re looking out for each other.”

Luckily, Bridges is in great shape today. He is cancer-free and shared, “But I’m feeling great now. Fortunately we have some wonderful stunt coordinators.” Season 2 of The Old Man will be streaming on Hulu on September 12, 2024.
