Mel Brooks Turns 99: See What the Comedy Legend Looks Like Today (PHOTOS)

One of Mel Brooks‘ earliest comedy masterpieces is the 2000 Year Old Man character he developed with comedy partner Carl Reiner — and while Brooks hasn’t quite hit 2000 years yet, he’s getting there: the comedy icon behind The Producers, Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles turned 99 on June 28, 2025.
And unlike most folks approaching their centennial birthday, the writer, actor and director has shown no interest in slowing down: in 2021, he published an autobiography, All About Me!, and wrote, produced, and narrated History of the World, Part II, and just this month, he has announced that he will produce the TV show Very Young Frankenstein and appear in Spaceballs 2, a film projected to be released in 2027, around Brooks’ 101st birthday.
Though Brooks has not commented on the health or wellness routines that have kept him so spry into his late 90s, he did have this to say while accepting an honorary Oscar in 2023: “First of all, I am very happy to still be alive!” A sentiment shared by fans around the world.
