Barbra Streisand Will Be Honored With a Very Special & Rare Award
SAG-AFTRA just announced that Barbra Streisand will be awarded their highest honor. She will become the 59th person to receive the SAG Life Achievement Award not only for her incredible career accomplishments but for her humanitarian work as well. She will be honored with the award during the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which is set to stream live on Netflix on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said, “Barbra Streisand is an icon and unparalleled talent, a force of nature who has seamlessly woven her brilliance through the fabric of our industry. From her earliest days captivating audiences on Broadway to her unforgettable roles in cinematic classics like ‘Funny Girl,’ ‘The Way We Were,’ and ‘A Star Is Born,’ Barbra’s ability to inhabit her characters with authenticity is nothing short of extraordinary.”
Streisand responded, “Ever since I was a young girl sitting in the Loew’s Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, I dreamed of being one of those actresses I saw on the screen. The movies were a portal to a world I could only imagine. Even though I was an unlikely candidate, somehow my dream came true. This award is especially meaningful to me because it comes from my fellow actors, whom I so admire.”
Streisand is known for her impressive singing voice and acting work. She has also directed several feature films, including her directorial debut with Yentl. She became the first woman to direct, write, produce, and star in a major film with Yentl. She recently released her memoir, which explains her life and career by sharing stories from the past called “My Name is Barbra.” It immediately went on the New York Times best-seller list. This is certainly a very high honor but is not her first. Streisand has already received two Academy Awards, ten Grammys, five Emmys, three Peabody Awards, a Tony Award, and more.
In addition to her amazing career accomplishments, the award celebrates her philanthropic work. She established The Streisand Foundation in 1986 to help support many issues including the environment, women’s rights, and more. She is particularly dedicated to women’s cardiovascular health and established the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.
Congrats to Barbra! Let us know if you’ll be watching her receive the award live!
