Disneyland visitors got a very special surprise while visiting the park a few days ago. 97-year-old Dick Van Dyke and his wife Arlene Silver were seen having a jolly holiday at the Disney park. At one point, the pair waved to fans atop a balcony in the New Orleans Square area. Later on, they were seen listening to the Dapper Dans perform “Jolly Holiday” from the 1964 Disney musical Mary Poppins, in which Van Dyke starred as Bert.

Not only did he play Bert in Mary Poppins but Mr. Dawes Sr. He reprised his role, sort of, as Mr. Dawes Jr. in Mary Poppins Returns. He also starred in the 1966 film Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N, and narrated the documentary Walt: The Man Behind the Myth, about Walt Disney.

Since Disney is so close to his heart, this isn’t the first time that Van Dyke has been spotted at Disneyland. Back in 2015, he spent his 90th birthday there and guests sang “Happy Birthday” to him. He has also been featured as a celebrity guest for the annual Candlelight Ceremony during the holiday season.

Van Dyke can also celebrate a very special milestone in his life today, Oct. 3. On this day in 1961, The Dick Van Dyke Show premiered, starring Van Dyke, Rose Marie, Mary Tyler Moore, and Morey Amsterdam. It aired on CBS for five seasons and won 15 Emmy Awards, securing it as one of the best nostalgic shows of all time.

Though Van Dyke is now 97 years old, he seems to be in good health and spirits. Despite a mild health scare earlier this year after a car crash, he still gets out and about as confirmed by his recent Disneyland trip.
