Paramount Announces Plans for Its Fourth Annual ‘Star Trek’ Day

Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, marks the 57th anniversary of the start of the iconic Star Trek franchise created by Gene Roddenberry (the original Star Trek series premiered on NBC Sept. 8, 1966, with the episode “The Man Trap.”)

To mark the occasion, the networks and streaming services of Paramount will, for the fourth year, be celebrating Star Trek Day.

A variety of televised, streaming and theatrical events have been announced for Star Trek Day 2023. Some highlights are below, and more info can be found at StarTrek.com/Day.

Star Trek Day” Special

Jerry O’Connell, who voices Commander Jack Ransom on the animated Paramount+ series Star Trek: Lower Decks (back for its fourth season on Sept. 7) hosts this program that offers a salute to the Trek franchise.

The special will look back at memorable moments over the past 57 years; commemorate 50 years of Star Trek animation (the Filmation-produced Star Trek: The Animated Series, the first TV spinoff of the original series, premiered Sept. 8, 1973); pay tribute to Star Trek: Discovery ahead of its final season on Paramount+; provide an exclusive sneak-peek clip from the new season of Lower Decks; and commemorate many other moments that highlight Star Trek‘s legacy.

The “Star Trek Day” special will be available to watch for free globally at StarTrek.com/Day; on YouTube (on the Paramount+ and STAR TREK Official pages); on Twitch (@ParamountPlus) and on Facebook (@StarTrekOnPPlus and @StarTrek).

In the U.S., the special will be available to stream on Paramount+, on Pluto TV (on the Paramount+ Picks, STAR TREK, More STAR TREK and Pluto TV Sci-Fi channels) and on Mixable, and it will also air on select local CBS affiliates, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, Pop TV, Fave TV and Smithsonian.com.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Special Airings on CBS (Beginning at 8pm ET/PT)

The CBS television network will broadcast the first two episodes of the current Paramount+ streaming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in primetime on Sept. 8:

8pm ET/PT: Episode 101, Series Premiere: “Strange New Worlds” — When one of Capt. Christopher Pike’s (Anson Mount) officers goes missing while on a secret mission for Starfleet, Pike has to come out of self-imposed exile. He must navigate how to rescue his officer while struggling with what to do with the vision of the future he’s been given.

9:10pm (approx.) ET/PT: Episode 102: “Children of the Comet” – While on a survey mission, the USS Enterprise discovers a comet is going to strike an inhabited planet. The crew tries to re-route the comet, only to find that an ancient alien relic buried on the comet’s icy surface is somehow stopping them. As the away team tries to unlock the relic’s secrets, Pike and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) deal with a group of zealots who want to prevent the Enterprise from interfering.
