The Facts of Life was a spinoff of NBC’s Diff’rent Strokes and ended 37 years ago on May 7, 1988. It aired for 9 seasons and 201 episodes and remains a beloved show today.
It followed upbeat housekeeper Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae) moving on up to become a housemother at a posh Eastland private girls school in upstate New York. There, she took charge of four teenage girls, snooty Blair (Lisa Whelchel), cheery Natalie (Mindy Cohn), sociable Tootie (Kim Fields) and tough cookie Jo (Nancy McKeon), all needing her love and guidance. The show regularly dove into serious topics such as sex, eating disorders and teenage drinking, giving audiences of all ages the chance to learn (or relearn) The Facts of Life.
