Turner Classic Movies Summer Under the Stars: Robert Ryan

Summer Under the Stars (SUTS), Turner Classic Movies’ annual August programming favorite, returns August 7 celebrating Robert Ryan.

Known for his portrayal of cops and villains, Academy Award-nominated actor Robert Ryan is the focus of today’s TCM schedule. Films include The Naked Spur (1953), a Western costarring James Stewart and Janet Leigh following a bounty hunter who must accept some help from some untrustworthy strangers; Back From Eternity (1956), costarring Rod Steiger and Anita Ekberg, in which a plane lands in a South American jungle filled with cannibals; Berlin Express (1948), a film noir following a group of train passengers who get involved in a Nazi assassination plot; On Dangerous Ground (1951), a film noir costarring Ida Lupino and Ward Bond about a tough city cop sent upstate to help a local sheriff solve a murder; and The Secret Fury (1950), another film noir, featuring a conspiracy surrounding a woman accused of bigamy by a stranger at her wedding.
