Over 30 years since one of the best Christmas movies ever premiered, its star is headlining a very special event. Chevy Chase, the star of the popular National Lampoon’s Vacation movies including 1989’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is attending the Christmas Con in New Jersey. This is his first-ever appearance at the convention and fans, including other stars attending the event, are getting very excited.

Christmas Con falls this year between Dec. 8 and Dec. 10 and celebrates Christmas, of course, with panels of beloved Christmas movie stars, a holiday market, fun photo ops, and more. Definitely a Christmas-lovers dream! Generally, the event is full of Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movie stars including last year’s stars Jonathan Bennett, Lacey Chabert, Danica McKellar, and many more.

Hallmark movie actor Tyler Hynes hoped that Chase might soon make an appearance. He previously said, “I mean, if we’re talking about holiday stars, I would just think of Chevy Chase from the Lampoon movies. ‘Christmas Vacation’ is one of those legendary movies I grew up on. Doing these movies now and having him be in it would be a full-circle moment.” Chase was in the news after falling off the stage during a Q&A about Christmas Vacation at Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, NY. Luckily, he recovered quickly and is doing fine.

Christmas Vacation is a classic written by John Hughes and also stars Beverly D’Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, Diane Ladd, John Randolph, and of course Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie. The film follows Chase’s character Clark Griswold as he aims to make this Christmas something to remember for his family but often loses his temper with his annoying family members, electrical difficulties, and frustration with his boss over not getting his usual annual Christmas bonus. If you want to see Chase in person and you love all things Christmas, get your tickets for Christmas Con here. He also has been doing select cities screening the film and holding a Q&A, so keep an eye out for him coming to a town near you!

This isn’t the only thing that Chase is celebrating! This year marks the 40th anniversary of National Lampoon’s Vacation, the movie that started it all. It follows the Griswold family on vacation where absolutely everything that can go wrong does go wrong, in the most hilarious way. To commemorate the special anniversary, Fathom’s Big Screen Classics is re-airing the film in select movie theaters around the country on July 16th and 19th.
