Holy longevity, Batman! Happy birthday to Burt Ward, who is 78 years old today!

The actor, who played Batman’s (Adam West) sidekick Robin on the 1960s TV series Batman, was born in Los Angeles on July 6, 1945.

His birth name is Bert John Gervis Jr., so changing that was probably a good thing for his showbiz career.

Ward is one of those one-hit wonder actors who’ll be forever remembered for a tremendously huge role … and not much else. Give him credit, though, he’s certainly milked the Robin thing for all it’s worth. And he’s been a good sport and had an incredible sense of humor about it.

He’s appeared in small-budget and made-for-TV movies throughout the decades, done voiceover work in various Batman/DC projects, and made countless guest appearances as himself.

In June 1995, Ward wrote a tell-all autobiography about his Batman experience called Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights.

In 2019, he appeared on The CW’s Arrowverse “Crisis on Infinite Earths” episode of Supergirl.

And in 2020, Ward got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
