Carmen Electra is heading back to TV this summer as part of Fox’s new celebrity competition series Nation’s Dumbest, which premieres July 15. It is the latest gig for Electra in a career that has included music, modeling, Baywatch, Singled Out, MTV reality TV, and several spoof movies, including Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Disaster Movie.

Born Tara Leigh Patrick in Sharonville, Ohio, Electra first broke through after moving to Minneapolis and working with Prince, who helped launch her early music career and gave her the name Carmen Electra. She later became one of the most recognizable faces of the late ’90s after playing Lani McKenzie on Baywatch and co-hosting MTV’s Singled Out. Along the way, her love life became news too, and she has been linked to some interesting men.

Prince was not only one of her exes, but also the person who helped create the Carmen Electra persona. After meeting her in the early ’90s, he signed her to Paisley Park Records, produced her self-titled 1993 album, and gave her the stage name that she later made legal in 2024. Electra has said they dated and worked together, and in later interviews she looked back on him as a romantic. She has also said she ended their dating relationship after learning he was seeing other women.

Electra and Dennis Rodman were one of the wildest celebrity couples of the late ’90s. They married in Las Vegas in November 1998, shortly after Electra had lost both her mother and her older sister, Debbie. Rodman filed for an annulment nine days later, but the couple reconciled before ultimately ending the marriage in 1999. Years later, Electra said the relationship was real, according to E! News, not a publicity stunt, but that the partying became too much.

Electra married Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro on November 22, 2003, and their relationship became an MTV reality series with Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave. The show followed the couple as they prepared for their wedding, making them one of the most visible celebrity rocker couples of the early 2000s. They announced their separation in 2006, and their divorce was finalized in February 2007. She shared about their relationship, according to People, “[I want] somebody that’s very romantic. I remember when I was dating Dave [Navarro], I was so not romantic, and he was teaching me how to be romantic, but now I am.

After Navarro, Electra became engaged to musician Rob Patterson, who played guitar with Otep and Filter. Her representative confirmed the engagement in April 2008, but the couple never made it down the aisle. They stayed engaged for several years before splitting in 2012. That same year, Electra appeared as one of the celebrity bachelorettes on FOX’s dating show The Choice.

Electra was briefly linked to Simon Cowell after crossing paths in the reality TV world. Cowell confirmed in late 2012 that they were dating, though he said she was not officially his girlfriend. The relationship did not last long, but it is a surprising story in her past love life.

Electra is single as of 2026 and has said she is open to dating again.
