‘The Hogan Family’ Star Jeremy Licht Says He and Jason Bateman Still Share a Brotherly Bond (Exclusive)
Jeremy Licht has nothing but good things to say about his time on The Hogan Family, especially when it comes to his TV brother Jason Bateman.
The actor, who played Mark Hogan on the sitcom, spoke with ReMIND at a recent Hollywood Show in Burbank, California and reflected on growing up on set with Bateman, who played his older brother, David Hogan. The series originally aired from 1986 to 1991 and starred Valerie Harper before Sandy Duncan joined the cast in later seasons.
Jeremy Licht Says Jason Bateman Became Like an Older Brother

Licht said he first met Bateman when they started working together on the show. At the time, Bateman was 16, and Licht was 14. “I have in real life a younger brother, so all of a sudden I had an older brother,” Licht said.
“Jason was great, unbelievable professional, knew so much about, especially sitcoms,” Licht said. “I had never really done a sitcom. I’d done an episode of something before, but never a sitcom and all of a sudden I’m booked on this show and he just knew timing.” Licht said Bateman’s skill is still evident in his work today. “To this day, his timing is good,” he said. “His cadence is everything is just amazing.”
The Hogan Family cast still keeps in touch

Licht also pushed back on the idea that his experience with Bateman was anything other than positive. He said he can only speak from his own time working with him, “five days a week for five and a half seasons,” but added that Bateman was great to him. “Was it always easy? No,” he said. “We had three boys who were pre-and actively pubescent and of a certain age. And were there times that we fought and argued? Absolutely. Were we always showing up to rehearsals and professional? Absolutely.”
He added that the cast has remained close in the years since the show ended. “We still end up going to lunch every six months or so when we can all get our acts and schedules together,” Licht said.
Jeremy Licht also loved working with Sandy Duncan

Licht also shared warm memories of Sandy Duncan, who joined the series after Valerie Harper’s exit. “I loved working with Sandy,” he said. “She was amazing.” He described Duncan as “light and funny and adorable” and said the cast got along well with her as the show continued. “She was just a joy to work with,” Licht said. He added that she lives in New York now.
“The beauty is because it is so many years later that when we all get together, we don’t even talk about the work that we did then,” he said. “It’s really about what’s going on now, how are your families, how are the kids, what’s the craziness?” He said that spending so many years together also created space for honesty.
“Because we experienced five years together, there can also be brutal honesty when things are challenging,” he said. Licht summed up his feelings about Bateman and the rest of the cast simply. “I love Jason and all of them, and my experience was all good,” he said.
The actor also said he tries to give people grace, especially because everyone has difficult days. “We’re all only human, and everybody is going through a struggle that no one else knows about,” Licht said. “I try to give people grace and try to be, at the end of the day, when we talk to our kids about this, be kind and be tolerant because everybody’s going through it one way or the other.”
