MeTV Presents ‘The Golden Girls of Summer’ in a Month Long Celebration
Picture it … an acerbic Sicilian grandmother moves out of the Shady Pines Retirement Home and into the Miami abode that her equally sarcastic daughter Dorothy (Bea Arthur) shares with promiscuous Blanche (Rue McClanahan) and bumbling Rose (Betty White). Taking verbal shots at the trio made Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) a fan favorite on NBC’s The Golden Girls, while her antics, which included dishing out tough love and curses, and charming guest stars Burt Reynolds and Julio Iglesias, earned Getty an Emmy nomination for each of The Golden Girls‘ seven seasons (and one trophy).
Sophia is just one of the “Girls” MeTV will be showcasing with a month-long celebration of The Golden Girls with ‘The Golden Girls of Summer’ beginning on June 8.
Each week spotlights a different Golden Girl, featuring standout moments, unforgettable one-liners, and fan-favorite episodes that highlight the timeless appeal of these iconic characters.

A teacher to whom Dorothy is attracted turns out to be a priest.

One of Dorothy’s students writes a prize-winning essay on what it means to be an American. After this, the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services reveals that the boy is in the country illegally.

Dorothy’s friend, local author Barbara Thorndyke, treats Rose and Blanche condescendingly.

After a high school classmate dies unexpectedly, Dorothy decides to fulfill a long-forgotten dream of being a stand-up comedian.

10 pm – “Feelings”
Dorothy attracts severe criticism for refusing to pass a star football player in the high school English Literature course which she is teaching.
10:30 pm – “Questions and Answers”
Dorothy learns that auditions for the TV game show “Jeopardy!” are coming to Miami, and she plans to try out for it. Later, she dreams of a bizarre game of Jeopardy! which pits her against Rose and her neighbor Charlie Dietz.

10 pm – “One Flew Out of the Cuckoo’s Nest Pt. 1”
As Dorothy and Lucas prepare to get married, they try to persuade Sophia to come live with them in Atlanta.

Dorothy and Lucas’ plot to get even with Blanche leads to a surprise wedding.

Rose tries to overcome her addiction to painkillers after Sophia accidentally knocks her bottle of pills down the sink.

When Rose loses her pension fund, she must face the fact that she’s going to have to get a new job.

Rose makes a stunning discovery while admitting a patient at the hospital.

Rose gets a big shock when she develops some old film she discovers in one of Charlie’s cameras.
