Gilmore Girls star Milo Ventimiglia recently made a bold confession about the love triangle involving Rory, Jess, and Dean.
During an interview with People published on February 22, Ventimiglia — who played Luke Danes’ (Scott Patterson) nephew, Jess Mariano, in the comedy-drama series — detailed how he is approaching the Team Jess vs. Team Dean debate with his kids.
Ventimiglia and his wife, Jarah Mariano, married in 2023 and welcomed a baby girl, Ke’ala, in January 2025.
“I’d be way OK if my daughter eventually watched the show and she was team Dean,” Ventimiglia, 48, admitted of Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki). “I get it because I’m team Jared, so I get it.”

Additionally, Ventimiglia shared his thoughts on Rory’s third boyfriend, Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry), whom she dated while attending Yale.
“I know that Logan and Jess and Dean were kind of very spread apart in who they were as characters, but Matt Czuchry and Jared Padalecki couldn’t be … I mean, they’re the best guys,” Ventimiglia told People. “They couldn’t be any lovelier as human beings, and I think it’s nice that more than 20-plus years later we all still can talk about this show we were growing up on and come together as grown men just to recognize that and still have loving words for one another.”
In Gilmore Girls, Rory and Dean broke up over her feelings for Jess. She and Jess ended their relationship due to his emotional unavailability, erratic behavior, and departure from Stars Hollow. Although Rory and Dean eventually got back together, they broke up for a final time after he realized he no longer fit into Rory’s Yale life. With Logan, they broke up when Rory rejected his marriage proposal after she graduated from college.
Gilmore Girls aired for seven seasons from 2000 to 2007. A four-episode Netflix revival series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, was released in 2016.
