Tom Noonan, the actor known for his roles in RoboCop 2 and Last Action Hero, is reportedly dead at 74.

On Wednesday, February 18, multiple outlets, including the Daily Mail, reported that Noonan’s What Happened Was co-star, Karen Sillas, announced the news of his death via Instagram. As of writing, however, there was no post on her Instagram grid.

Noonan reportedly “passed peacefully” on Saturday, February 14. A cause of death was not shared.

“My dear friend and co-star, Tom Noonan passed peacefully on Valentine’s Day 2026,” Sillas reportedly wrote. “Working with him in his original off Broadway play, What Happened Was…, at the Paradise Factory Theatre in the early nineties, was a turning point for me and my career that still resonates throughout my life and work as an actor.”

Sillas added, per the Daily Mail, “Little did I know when we shot it as a film a year later, we would be creating one of 1990’s most iconic Indies in American cinema. What a privilege and crazy fun it was working with this man and calling him my friend to the end… may his Legacy continue to shine on.”

Noonan played the main villain, Cain, in RoboCop 2 in 1990. In Last Action Hero (1993), he played a serial killer named Ripper. Additionally, the actor was known for his roles in films like Seraphim Falls (2006), Synecdoche, New York (2008), The House of the Devil (2009), and more.

On X, fans shared tributes to Noonan, with one writing, “RIP Tom Noonan, his work in Mann’s filmography are absolutely stellar but his work with Charlie Kaufman is also so underrated, in Synecdoche, New York especially.”

Another X user shared, “Tom Noonan was one of my favorites, one of the most peculiarly beautiful onscreen presences that no one else matched. One of a kind, he will be missed.

Someone else wrote via X, “Everyone that still hasn’t seen Synecdoche, New York needs to put it at the top of their watchlist asap!!! I just can’t believe the news about Tom Noonan, RIP to an underrated legend.”

Meanwhile, yet another fan echoed, “RIP Tom Noonan. I was just telling someone the other day how I prefer Manhunter to Silence because of his performance. From Monster Squad to Last Action Hero to House of the Devil he was a towering, singular presence with an unexpectedly calm, beautiful, voice. One of a kind.”
