In The Pitt Season 2 Episode 6, “12:00 P.M.,” viewers had to say goodbye to fan favorite character Louie Cloverfield, played brilliantly by Ernest Harden Jr. A beloved frequent flier patient on the Max series, Louie was portrayed as a chronic alcoholic with multiple health issues, but he remained defined by his optimism, outgoing nature, and familiar presence in the emergency room until he died of a pulmonary hemorrhage caused by liver failure.
Fans of classic television might recognize Louie, even if they cannot immediately place the actor. Harden has been a familiar face on television and in films for more than 50 years, building a wide-ranging career that spans sitcoms, primetime dramas, and major Hollywood movies.

One series where he made a lasting impression was The Jeffersons, where Harden played recurring character Marcus Garvey Henderson in Season 4. In the show, Louise Jefferson (Isabel Sanford) hired Marcus as a young, street-smart teen who was part of an outreach program through Jefferson Cleaners, giving Harden one of his earliest memorable roles.
Marcus was raised in a tough neighborhood and initially struggled to take responsibility for his actions, blaming the system for his failures. On his first day working for George and Louise, he stole an expensive jacket. However, after George (Sherman Hemsley) and Louise held him accountable, and after George lied on his behalf to allow him to keep his job, Marcus opted to pursue a better path.
When he later revealed that his father died when he was young, allowing George to step in as a positive male influence and take him on a camping trip, reinforcing Marcus’s commitment to staying on the right track.
Marcus made his final appearance in the Season 6 episode, “Joltin’ George.” (However, it should be noted that Harden also portrayed a different character in Season 3 that was similar to Marcus.)
Over the years, Harden has appeared in many big name projects, including White Men Can’t Jump, Animal Practice, The Bernie Mac Show, and the sci-fi classic V. But his time on The Pitt resounded with many viewers, and he will be missed.
