The Mummy 4 officially has a release date — but fans of the franchise shared mixed reactions to the news.
On February 10, multiple outlets reported that Universal Pictures set a release date for the fourth Mummy Installment for May 19, 2028. That means the film, directed by Radio Silence’s Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, won’t hit theaters for more than two years.
In the comments of an X post sharing the news, some fans were hesitant to celebrate the news. One lamented, “That’s two years. Oh man, that’s a long time.”
Someone else wondered, “How are they gonna explain Maria Bello in the third one? 🤭”
Another X user echoed, “That’s gonna be interesting as his character has a different wife.”
A different X user asked, “What about Imhotep? Will Arnold Vosloo be back? That’s the point.”

However, others were thrilled to learn the release date for The Mummy 4. One X user declared, “This is brilliant. I love this movie, especially with these two reprising their roles.”
A second X user commented, “Here for it. Such a great franchise — especially the first two,” while someone else pointed out, “We did it!!! So happy to see the ultimate culmination of the Brenaissance!!!”
Another person wrote via X, “Rachel is really coming back, I cannot wait to see this 😭.”
Meanwhile, yet another fan exclaimed, “The O’Connells are back. Childhood officially revived. 😭.”
In November, Fraser broke his silence in an interview with Variety about reprising his character Rick O’Connell alongside Rachel Weisz’s Evelyn 25 years after last starring together.
“We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and gave it our best shot,” Fraser said of the third film. “But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
The original Mummy was released in 1999, followed by The Mummy Returns in 2001, also starring Fraser and Wiesz. In the third movie, however, Maria Bello replaced Wiesz in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).
