Chuck Negron, the lead singer of Three Dog Night, is dead at 83.
On Monday, February 2, Negron died at his home in Studio City, California, while “surrounded by family,” his publicist, Zach Farnum, said in a statement, per the Daily Mail. Negron’s cause of death was complications from heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), he noted, per Deadline.
In 1967, Negron formed Three Dog Night alongside Danny Hutton and the late Cory Wells. Michael Allsup and the late musicians Jimmy Greenspoon, Joe Schermie, and Floyd Sneed eventually joined the rock band. Negron was best known for performing lead vocals for Three Dog Night in songs like “Joy to the World,” “One,” and “An Old Fashioned Love Song,” in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Additionally, he led tracks like “The Show Must Go On” and “Easy to Be Hard.”
Negron left Three Dog Night in 1985 amid struggles with substance abuse, but continued to release solo records from 1995 to 2017. Meanwhile, Allsup and Hutton are still touring as Three Dog Night.

Negron is survived by his wife, Ami Albea Negron; his children, Shaunti Negron Levick, Berry Oakley, Charles Negron III, Charlotte Negron, and Annabelle Negron; and nine grandchildren.
