Tippi Hedren recently celebrated her 96th birthday with a rare public appearance at her daughter Melanie Griffith‘s house.
On January 19, the Birds (1963) and Marnie (1964) actress was photographed at Griffith’s residence, per the Daily Mail, as she marked the milestone with friends and family. Hedren was reportedly able to walk without assistance, only linking arms with her grandson, Alexander Bauer, 40, while navigating a set of stairs. (Alexander is Griffith’s son with her second husband, Steven Bauer.)
For the birthday celebration, Hedren donned a purple shirt paired with a floral blazer and black pants.
The iconic actress had most recently been spotted in April 2025 while celebrating Griffith’s 68th birthday at her Hollywood Hills residence. At that birthday get-together, Hedron’s granddaughter, Dakota Johnson, 36, also attended. (Dakota is Griffith’s daughter with her ex-husband, Don Johnson.)
Although Griffith didn’t post a social media tribute for her mother this year, she wished Hedren a happy 95th birthday via Instagram in 2025. “My beautiful Mama turned 95 yesterday! 🥰♥️🥰♥️🥰,” she captioned the update. “She’s happy, healthy and feisty!!”

In February 2024, Hedron’s battle with dementia was revealed by Spanish journalist Gustavo Egusquiza after he reached out to the actress for an interview.
“Unfortunately, her agent confirmed to me that Tippi is dealing with dementia and is unable to remember her career,” Egusquiza shared, per the Daily Mail. “It is a difficult situation for her and her family.”
Along with the Alfred Hitchcock films — including The Birds, Marnie, and A Countess from Hong Kong (1967) — Hedren notably appeared in I Heart Huckabees (2004) and Roar (1981). Most recently, she had an acting credit in Something Horrible (2018).
Hedren has been married three times through the years, including Peter Griffith from 1952 to 1960, Noel Marshall from 1964 to 1982, and Luis Barrenechea from 1985 to 1992. Griffin is her only child. In addition to Dakota and Steven, Griffin has a daughter, Stella Banderas, 29, with her ex-husband, Antonio Banderas.
