Elaine Hendrix and Lisa Ann Walter recently opened up about being “soulmates” 28 years after portraying enemies in the 1998 version of The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan.
During an interview with Us Weekly published on January 21, Hendrix and Walter reflected on their decades-long friendship after playing Meredith Blake and Chessy, respectively, in the remake of the 1961 film.
“Sisters,” Hendrix declared of the nature of their relationship, while Walter went a step further, labeling them as “soulmates.”
“Married without the romance,” Hendrix clarified, joking, “A best friend who will help you move a body.”
Most recently in the public eye, the actresses reunited in Season 34 of Dancing With the Stars when Walter joined Hendrix and her pro dance partner, Alan Bersten, for a foxtrot à trois during Dedication Night in October 2025.
“One of the things that is really gratifying about our longterm relationship is people responding to it, Walter told Us Weekly. “This is not new. We didn’t invent grown-a** female friendship. It’s necessary.”
As far as how soon their connection was evident after meeting on the set of The Parent Trap, Hendrix admitted, “I think from the beginning. We just got together and talked, talked, talked.”
That’s when Walter revealed, “We wrote a script together early on in our relationship. We were close, but when we got done writing that script, we were one. It was a girl buddy movie when they weren’t doing those. We were very much before the whole Bridesmaids.”
Hendrix added, “That was, like, right after Parent Trap. As a matter of fact, if anybody wants to fund it…”
When asked if there was a chance for a Parent Trap sequel, Walter replied, “That’s a Disney question,” as Hendrix agreed, “Above our pay grade.”
They also speculated on where their characters would be today, with Hendrix pointing out, “I think by a large consensus, people want Chessy and Meredith to get together.” Walter explained, “That’s on Reddit. That’s a very specific group of people on Reddit.”
In addition to Lohan, Hendrix, and Walter, The Parent Trap (1998) starred Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson as Annie and Hallie’s (both Lohan) parents, Nick Parker and Elizabeth James.
