What To Know

  • Bibi, claimed to be Freddie Mercury’s “secret daughter,” died at age 48 after a long battle with cancer.
  • The claim of Bibi being Mercury’s daughter was made by author Lesley Ann Jones in her 2025 book, based on access to Mercury’s private journals, though Mercury’s close friend Mary Austin expressed strong doubts about the story’s authenticity.
  • Jones, who became close to Bibi, stated that Bibi was determined to set the record straight about Mercury’s life and legacy during the final years of her illness.

Freddie Mercury‘s “secret daughter,” Bibi, is dead at 48, according to a report.

On Thursday, Jan. 15, the Daily Mail reported that Bibi’s widower, Thomas, contacted the outlet to reveal that she died “‘peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer, leaving two sons aged nine and seven.”

Thomas added, “B is now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts. Her ashes were scattered to the wind over the Alps.”

In September 2025, author Lesley Ann Jones published a book titled Love, Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life and Love, in which she claimed that Mercury conceived a child, “B,” in 1976 with a friend’s wife. The daughter was reportedly raised by her mother and stepfather, but had a close relationship with Mercury. Jones reportedly had access to Mercury’s private journals when writing the book.

Jones shared a statement in the the wake of Bibi’s death, telling the Daily Mail: “I am devastated by the loss of this woman who became my close friend, who had come to me with a selfless aim: to brush aside all those who have had free rein with Freddie’s story for 32 years, to challenge their lies and their rewriting of his life, and to deliver the truth.”

To conclude her message, the author shared, “At the end of her life, it was all that mattered to her. She was very ill throughout the 4 years that we worked together. But she was on a mission. She put herself and her own needs last.”

Mercury’s close friend, Mary Austin, expressed doubt that he fathered a secret daughter after Jones announced her book.

“Freddie had a glorious openness, and I cannot imagine he would have wanted to, or been able to, keep such a joyful event a secret, either from me or other people closest to him,” Austin told The Sunday Times in August 2025. “The truth is that I am simply not the guardian of such a secret. I’ve never known of any child, or of any diaries. If Freddie had indeed had a child without me knowing anything about it, that would be astonishing to me.”

In 1991, Mercury died at 45 from complications related to AIDS.
