Known for her wacky, over-the-top behavior, Rhonda Lee represented how different California was compared to the girls’ hometown of Milwaukee.
In honor of the series’ upcoming 50th anniversary, it’s a great time to take a look at how Easterbrook’s life and career continued after the series. She continues to act and is one of the only surviving main cast members of Laverne & Shirley.
How did Leslie Easterbrook begin her career?
Easterbrook was adopted as an infant and raised in Arcadia, Nebraska, by her adoptive parents, Carl and Helen Easterbrook. Her father was a music professor, and her mother was an English teacher at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She attended Kearney High School and later studied at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, a school known for its performing arts programs.
What did Leslie Easterbrook do after Laverne & Shirley?
After joining Laverne & Shirley in 1980, Easterbrook continued working steadily in television. During her time as Rhonda, she was also a contestant on the Match Game. In 1984, she was cast as Sergeant Debbie Callahan in Police Academy, a role that became her most widely recognized film performance. She appeared as Callahan in six films in the Police Academy series, released between 1984 and 1994, and later reprised the role in an episode of Police Academy: The Series.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Easterbrook made frequent guest appearances on network television. Her credits include The Dukes of Hazzard, Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, Hunter, Baywatch, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper and Diagnosis: Murder. She also appeared in a recurring role on the daytime soap opera Ryan’s Hope during the mid-1980s. Easterbrook worked in voice acting, contributing performances to Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series.
In 2005, she appeared as Mother Firefly in The Devil’s Rejects, replacing Karen Black, who had played the role in House of 1000 Corpses. She later appeared in Rob Zombie‘s 2007 Halloween remake and in several independent films, many of which were horror films. Her most recent onscreen appearance was in the 2022 film Give Till It Hurts.

In addition to acting, Easterbrook sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XVII in 1983 and recorded vocals for Police Academy: Mission to Moscow.
In her personal life, Easterbrook was married twice, including to writer and producer Dan Wilcox, who sadly died in 2024. She has spoken publicly about maintaining friendships with former Police Academy cast members and has appeared at fan conventions and film events in later years. She has also been involved with charitable organizations, including support for children’s charities and serves on the board of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
