In a new interview with Nostalgia Tonight with Joe Sibilia on AM 970 The Answer, Shaun Cassidy opened up about his late father, performer Jack Cassidy, including their last meeting before Jack’s death on December 12 1976. He shared that his father passed before Shaun’s career really took off, and though he wasn’t sure how his dad would have reacted to his fame, Shaun hoped “he would have been proud of me.”

Growing up Cassidy

Cassidy grew up with famous parents Jack Cassidy and Shirley Jones, with his half-brother David Cassidy also becoming famous as a teenage heartthrob on The Partridge Family. He also has two younger brothers, Patrick and Ryan Cassidy.

Cassidy shared in the interview that “My father was a wildly talented man, a Tony Award-winner on Broadway, actor, singer, Emmy-nominee in TV, famous for playing villains on shows like Columbo.” He added, “The last time I saw my father, I told him that I got the job on The Hardy Boys and he knew Glenn Larson, who was the producer. And Glenn, back in the day, was like Aaron Spelling.”

Sadly, Jack died just around the time that Cassidy’s career was taking off. Cassidy said he doesn’t know for sure how his dad would have reacted to his fame but said, “I don’t know, but I’d like to just to write the story that I would have gotten closer with my dad, he would have been proud of me.”

Cassidy said that he likes to think he is carrying the entertainment torch for his late father and brother David Cassidy. He continues to tour around the country with his Road to Us tour and will appear at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City on March 14. Have you ever seen him perform live?
