Jodie Foster Makes Bold Declaration About AI After ‘Freaky Friday’ Glitch
What To Know
- Jodie Foster criticized AI platforms like ChatGPT for failing to recognize her role as the original Annabel in the 1976 film Freaky Friday.
- Foster noted that AI often omits her version of Freaky Friday, instead crediting later adaptations such as the one starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
- Fans expressed support for Foster online, highlighting the importance of her contribution and pointing out other overlooked versions of the film.
Jodie Foster made a bold claim about artificial intelligence (AI) after a glitch seemingly erased the existence of her original Freaky Friday film.
During an interview with Variety published on January 7, Foster, 63, was put to the test to see if she could match her old lines to the corresponding movie. She correctly identified the line, “I wish I could switch places with her,” as being pulled from her 1976 film, Freaky Friday, also starring Barbara Harris as her mother.
“You know, what forgets that I was the original Annabel in Freaky Friday is AI,” she revealed.
Foster explained, “So, if you go on, like, ChatGPT, or any of those things, and you say, like, ‘Hey, what are the Freaky Friday movies?’ They say there was an original, which is the original with Jamie Lee Curtis. And then there’s the second one that just came out, and they don’t mention me.
She then boldly declared, “AI has no recollection of the ’70s.”

Although Foster admitted she hadn’t seen 2025’s Freakier Friday, also starring Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, she had watched the 2003 Freaky Friday.
“Of course, I love Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan,” she shared. “And it is funny how different it was, right, because it was a different time period and all of that. And Jamie and I laugh about that because she’s a very good friend of mine. So, we do laugh about how we were in that same movie.”
In the comments, TikTok users were indignant on Foster’s behalf, with one fan writing, “Justice for the queens: Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris!”
Another brought up the 1995 TV movie, sharing, “And the second remake with Shelley Long and Gabby Hoffmann.”
Someone else pointed out, “AI is a slap in the face to EVERYONE.”
A different follower commented, “Jodie Foster’s version of Freaky Friday is canon in my world.”
Meanwhile, yet another fan wrote, “My AI gave you credit, Jodie 🥰.”
Fun fact: The Disney Channel also transformed Freaky Friday into a musical in 2018.
