What To Know

  • Jon Manfrellotti, known for playing Gianni on Everybody Loves Raymond, began his career as a stand-up comedian and landed various supporting roles in TV and film throughout the 1990s.
  • His role on Everybody Loves Raymond grew from a one-time appearance as a cable guy to a recurring character, thanks in part to his real-life friendship with Ray Romano.
  • After the sitcom ended, Manfrellotti continued acting in TV and film, frequently collaborating with Romano, while also maintaining his stand-up comedy career and pursuing music.

Jon Manfrellotti may not have been a main character on Everybody Loves Raymond, but he was one of the show’s most familiar faces as Ray’s friend Gianni. Turns out, the pair’s chemistry was so effective because their friendship extended offscreen, too. As many of the cast members recently reunited for the show’s anniversary in November 2025, we wondered what Manfrellotti was up to as well.

How did Jon Manfrellotti begin his career?

Born Jonathan Manfrellotti on December 31, 1953, and raised in New York’s Little Italy, Manfrellotti built his career steadily, working as a stand-up comedian while also gaining several supporting roles in film and TV. His earliest screen credit came in 1992, and throughout the 1990s, he appeared in brief but memorable turns on shows like Law & Order, Seinfeld and NYPD Blue.

His association with Everybody Loves Raymond began earlier than many viewers realize. Before becoming Gianni, Manfrellotti appeared in the show’s first season as the Cable Guy in the episode “The Game.” That small role led to something more permanent, and over the series’ run, he appeared in more than two dozen episodes as Gianni, gradually becoming part of Ray’s extended circle.

After Raymond ended in 2005, Manfrellotti continued working steadily, often on projects involving familiar faces. He appeared on The King of Queens and later reunited with Ray Romano on the TNT drama Men of a Certain Age, where he played a bookie named Manfro. One of his most significant post-Raymond roles came on Mad Men, where he appeared in three episodes as Art Garten between 2010 and 2015. He appeared in a guest role in the second season of High Potential in 2025.

He appeared in comedies like Spy Hard, Just My Luck and Welcome to Mooseport, often playing working-class or everyday characters. In 2022, he appeared as Petey in Somewhere in Queens, a film written and directed by Romano. Beyond acting, Manfrellotti has remained active as a stand-up comic, often touring with Romano.

He is also an accomplished musician and has cited seeing the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show as an early inspiration to pick up the guitar. His blues band, Everything Hurts, appeared at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in December 2025.
