Fans of classic sci-fi have something to look forward to in the new year: Beginning Thursday, January 1, 2026, all 11 seasons of The X-Files will officially be available on Pluto TV, giving viewers a free, full-access way to revisit one of television’s most influential shows. The arrival includes all 218 episodes, including the original 1993–2002 run as well as the 2016 revival, and they will be available both on demand and on a brand-new 24/7 linear channel dedicated entirely to the series. Pluto TV plans to kick things off with a complete chronological run from the pilot onward, followed by curated weekend marathons.
When The X-Files premiered in the early ’90s, it did more than introduce audiences to FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. It tapped directly into growing public fascination with alien abductions and unexplained phenomena, giving viewers a dramatized look at popular conspiracy theories. The show’s mix of serialized mythology episodes and stand-alone “monster of the week” stories helped redefine what genre television could look like, paving the way for countless sci-fi and supernatural dramas that followed.

For longtime fans, this move makes revisiting the series easier than ever, no subscription required. For newer viewers, it offers a chance to experience what made the show a phenomenon in the first place. The new channel places The X-Files alongside other genre staples already streaming on Pluto TV, including Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Stargate and Doctor Who. Together, they create a lineup that feels tailor-made for viewers who love classic sci-fi and speculative storytelling.
Pluto TV, which operates as part of Paramount’s direct-to-consumer division, has steadily built its reputation as a go-to destination for free, ad-supported television. Adding The X-Files with a dedicated channel underscores the platform’s push to offer recognizable, binge-worthy series without the barrier of a monthly fee.
