Carrie Fisher’s Final Film is Getting Released on Friday
It has been seven years since actress Carrie Fisher passed away but her final film has still not yet been released. Fisher passed away just six weeks after finishing the filming of Wonderwell, which also stars Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, Sebastian Croft, and Kiera Milward. The film has now been given a theatrical release date of Friday, June 23, 2023.
Director Vlad Marsavin explained why it took so long to release the film. He said, “The journey we have taken as filmmakers with this movie, has been as perilous as that of the movie itself. From filming to screen it has taken us seven years. The visual effects on a movie of this magnitude takes time, but we were challenged with Covid lockdowns and of course the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher. Now is the perfect time to share her magical on screen moments as Hazel.”
He added that the film will include a dedication to Fisher. He shared, “Carrie was full of energy during filming and even celebrated her 60th birthday with us in Italy where we shot the movie. After a night shoot, which went on until 2am, she invited the whole team to celebrate with her and the party ended up being shut down by the police because it was deemed a little too loud. Her passing was very emotional for the whole team.”
Her co-star Ora shared similar sentiments. She said, “Working alongside Carrie Fisher was one of those experiences that you never forget. I can’t wait for the world to see this intriguing and magical world of Wonderwell.” Fisher faced a medical emergency during a flight and passed away four days later. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died just one day after Fisher.
Wonderwell tells the story of Violet (Milward), a young girl living in Italy and is set between the beautiful country and a fantasy realm. When Violet’s sister Savannah (Tiger Free) is selected to be a model for a famous designer, the family travels to a mysterious village. There, Violet meets people from the town and is introduced to a strange portal in the forest, giving her a glimpse into the future. Are you going to see the film?
