Monday, December 15

8:30pm, The Andy Griffith Show, “Opie the Birdman” (Season 4, Episode 1)

THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, Elinor Donahue, Ron Howard, Andy Griffith, (Season 1), 1960-68

Everett Collection

This is one of those episodes people tend to remember for its life lessons. Opie’s excitement over a new slingshot takes a painful turn when he accidentally kills a mother bird. What makes the episode so powerful is how Andy handles that lesson. Andy doesn’t scold or shame Opie; he lets him sit with what happened and decide how to make it right by caring for the orphaned birds. Then, Opie must learn to cope when the birds are ready to be set free. It is a sweet episode and a reminder of how wholesome The Andy Griffith Show truly was.

Tuesday, December 16

6:00pm, M*A*S*H, “Good-bye Radar: Part 2” (Season 8, Episode 5)

Radar’s departure from the 4077th continues as the camp struggles through one crisis after another, including a power failure and a flood of wounded soldiers. Even as Radar prepares to leave Korea, the war refuses to slow down, making his goodbye feel rushed and painfully realistic. This episode lands so hard because it shows just how much Radar has been holding together behind the scenes. His exit is not wrapped in a neat bow; it reflects the emotional whiplash of wartime change. The episode marks Radar O’Reilly’s final appearance as a regular cast member and remains one of the most memorable moments in the series.

Wednesday, December 17

12:00pm, The Waltons, “The Lumberjack” (Season 9, Episode 20)

THE WALTONS, (top, from left): Ralph Waite, Michael Learned, John Walmsley, Judy Norton-Taylor, Richard Thomas, (bottom): Mary Beth McDonough, Kami Cotler, Will Geer, Ellen Corby, Eric Scott, David Harper, 1972-81

This time of year is the perfect time to get cozy with The Waltons. In this episode, a new logging company arrives in town, offering to sell lumber to the family at a time when resources feel tight. What initially seems like a practical business opportunity quickly becomes more complicated as the family questions whether they can trust this company. As with so many later-season episodes, the story leans on quiet moral choices.

Thursday, December 18

6:00am, Adam-12, “Alcohol”

ADAM 12, (from left): Martin Milner, Kent McCord, 1968-75

Everett Collection

This episode begins with what appears to be a relatively minor disturbance, a drunk whose behavior initially seems more irritating than dangerous, until things get more serious. Dick Van Patten guest stars in the episode, bringing a familiar face to a story that emphasizes how ordinary people can find themselves caught in troubling circumstances. As the investigation continues, a routine stakeout leads to the discovery of a hidden cash stash.

Friday, December 19

5:00pm, Emergency!, “Understanding” (Season 3, Episode 13)

EMERGENCY!, Randolph Mantooth, Bobby Troup, Julie London, Robert Fuller, Kevin Tighe, 1972-77

Everett Collection

This episode packs several emotionally heavy calls into a single hour, showing just how unpredictable a day on duty can be for the paramedics and hospital staff. One of the most heartbreaking moments comes during an explosive fire, where a young girl’s horse is trapped inside a burning barn, forcing the rescue team to act quickly under dangerous conditions. At the same time, Dr. Brackett and Nurse McCall confront a man whose failure to manage his diabetes puts him at serious risk, while hospital workers race to trace a phone call from a girl threatening suicide. The tension escalates even further during a bank robbery when a hostage with heart problems requires treatment at gunpoint. It seems like a lot of drama for one episode, but that’s just what Emergency! was all about.

Saturday, December 20

8:00pm, Svengoolie, Brides of Dracula

THE BRIDES OF DRACULA, David Peel, 1960

Everett Collection

One of Svengoolie’s picks for this week is Brides of Dracula. When a young teacher unknowingly frees a man held captive by his mother, the consequences ripple outward in unsettling ways. Peter Cushing returns as Van Helsing and it became a cult classic film. Paired with Svengoolie, it becomes the perfect Saturday night watch for horror fans.

Sunday, December 21

11:00am, Happy Days, “White Christmas” (Season 8, Episode 6)

HAPPY DAYS, Henry Winkler (second from left), 'Guess Who's Coming To Christmas' (Season 2, 12/17/74), 1974-84

Everett Collection

A fierce blizzard traps the Happy Days gang in different locations on Christmas Eve, including Arnold’s and the Cunningham family’s hardware store. The episode leans into the humor and heart of being stuck together during the holidays, with Fonzie unexpectedly stepping into a Santa-like role.
