The Holes TV reboot series has been canceled by Disney+, Deadline reports.
In January, the streaming platform ordered a pilot for a gender-swapped series of the beloved ’90s film. Shay Rudolph was tapped to play the lead role, Hayley, while Greg Kinnear was selected to portray the warden, Variety reported.
Other cast members included Aidy Bryant as a camp counselor, Sissy; Noah Cottrell as a kitchen employee, Kitch, as well as Iesha Daniels, Flor Delis Alicea, Anire Kim Amoda, Sophie Dieterlen, Alexandra Doke, and Maeve Press as campers.
On X, fans shared their reactions to the news of Disney+ axing the Holes TV reboot, with one declaring, “So disappointing.”
Another X user agreed, writing, “That’s genuinely disappointing news! Loved the movie, and a series adaptation sounded like a great idea.”
Someone else shared, “Holes had real potential as a series, another good story quietly shelved before it even got a chance.”
Yet another X user commented, “Typical, isn’t it? One minute they’re all about the next big thing, and the next, it’s scrapped. Guess we’ll have to keep our treasure hunting to the back garden for now!”
The 2003 film Holes was based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Louis Sachar. It starred Shia LaBeouf as a teen named Stanley Yelnats who was sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he didn’t commit. At Camp Green Lake, he and his fellow campers were forced to dig holes in the desert, where he uncovered a connection between the land and his family.
Alongside LaBeouf, the movie featured Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson, Khleo Thomas, Jake M. Smith, Byron Cotton, Brenden Jefferson, Miguel Castro, Max Kasch, Noah Poletiek, Zane Holtz, and Steve Kozlowski, among others.
