What To Know

  • The 1985 film Clue became a cult classic thanks to its ensemble cast, multiple endings, and faithful adaptation of the popular board game.
  • Several cast members are still active in the entertainment industry.
  • While some original stars have passed away, the surviving cast members continue to be celebrated for their roles in Clue.

Clue arrived in theaters on December 13, 1985, and slowly turned into a cult classic. Based on the iconic murder-mystery board game, it follows six strangers who are invited to a secluded New England mansion under mysterious circumstances, only to become entangled in a night of secrets and murder.

The film introduced live-action versions of the game’s familiar characters, including Miss Scarlet, Mrs. Peacock, Mrs. White, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, and Mr. Green, along with a butler named Wadsworth. With its three different endings, the movie built a devoted following long after its initial release. Sadly, many of the film’s stars have passed away, but several are still with us, continuing to make appearances. Here are the members of the beloved cast who are still alive, and a look back at those we have lost.

Tim Curry (79)

Wadsworth

Already known to fans as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the terrifying Pennywise the Clown in Stephen King’s It, he became even more endeared to filmgoers after playing Wadsworth and enjoyed a successful career. However, after suffering a major stroke in 2012, Curry shifted mainly to voice acting, including projects through the mid-2010s, and he continues to appear at fan events, both virtual and in-person. His post-stroke work included voicing Chancellor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, G. Gordon Godfrey in Young Justice and the recurring villain Dr. Morocco in Transformers: Rescue Bots.

Christopher Lloyd (87)

Professor Plum

Christopher Lloyd was already a star thanks to his roles as Reverend Jim Ignatowski in Taxi and Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in Back to the Future. After Clue, he cemented his status as a film icon with the role of Uncle Fester in 1991’s The Addams Family. He recently appeared in high-profile projects such as Netflix’s Wednesday and Disney+’s The Mandalorian. Lloyd frequently attends nostalgic reunions and conventions.

Michael McKean (78)

Mr. Green

Before slipping on the suit and tie of Professor Plum, McKean was best known to audiences as David St. Hubbins in This is Spinal Tap and Lenny Kosnowski in Laverne & Shirley. Since Clue, McKean has continued to work steadily, earning critical acclaim for his performance as Chuck McGill on Better Call Saul, a role that brought him multiple award nominations. He has also appeared in a wide range of projects, from guest roles on Law & Order: SVU, The X-Files, and The Good Place to parts in comedies like Grace and Frankie, Veep, and Good Omens. His film work also shows an impressive range, with his work in pics such as Best in Show and Lincoln.

Lesley Ann Warren (79)

Miss Scarlet

Best known for her Oscar-nominated turn as the mob girlfriend in Victor/Victoria, Warren was a steady presence in Hollywood before she stepped into the role of Miss Scarlett. Warren has continued acting in television and film since Clue, including roles in Echoes, Desperate Housewives, Will & Grace, and In Plain Sight. She continues appearing at industry and fan events.

After Clue, she appeared in a wide range of movies, including Die Hard with a Vengeance, Wayne’s World, Election, American Hustle, and Knock Knock. On television, she has shown up in everything from The Golden Girls and ER to more recent series like Empire, Entourage, and The Other Two. Behind the scenes, she has produced numerous independent films, such as Into the Forest, Homecoming, and Love Ranch.

Lee Ving (75)

Mr. Boddy

Punk musician Lee Ving is best known as the lead singer of the band Fear, but took a break from his stage diving antics to appear in a brief but crucial role as Mr. Boddy, whose death sets the entire story in motion. Ving continues performing with his band and remains active in music. His cameo has become a fun Easter egg for fans who later discover his “other” career in punk rock.
