What To Know

  • Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber revealed that one Olsen twin ‘did not like’ filming Full House when she was a baby.
  • The directors sometimes favored working with Ashley over Mary-Kate, especially in the early years, and had to fairly divide scenes involving sweets between the twins.
  • Full House aired from 1987 to 1995 with a cast including the Olsen twins, and its spinoff Fuller House ran on Netflix from 2016 to 2020.

Full House stars Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber recently revealed which Olsen twin “did not like” filming the beloved ’90s sitcom.

On the November 20 episode of their How Rude, Tanneritos podcast, Sweetin, 43, who played Stephanie Tanner, and Barber, 49, who played Kimmy Gibbler, spoke about the differences between Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen when playing Michelle Tanner.

“Was there ever a point when the directors would favor working with one twin over the other and give them more time on set?” Barber read a question asked by a fan. “In a situation like that, could they fire one and keep the other? How does that work with twins? Especially when they get older, and you don’t need to switch out the crying babies.”

Sweetin then confessed, “I would say yes, there was a point when they favored working with one over the other. But it was at the beginning.”

“It was Ashley,” Sweetin continued. “Mary-Kate did not like being out on set, but Ashley was like, ‘Cool, whatevs.’ She was much more kind of docile about it. Which is funny when I think about them as people. Because I’m like that’s absolutely who they are. Ashley will be like, ‘Sure, whatevs.’ Mary Kate was like, ‘I don’t want to do this.'”

Barber added of the Olsen twins as they got older, “One would want to do a certain scene because it was more fun for them, and the other one didn’t care.”

To that, Sweetin elaborated that directors “had to divide up the sweets-eating scenes because that was the only thing that they were like, ‘This isn’t fair.’ They couldn’t have one twin eating more sweets than the other one, or the girls would riot.”

In other recent revelations from Sweetin, the actress shared that her alcohol addiction began at her Full House costar Candace Cameron Bure‘s wedding.

Full House aired for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995. In addition to Sweetin, Barber, Cameron Bure (DJ Tanner), and the Olsen twins, the sitcom starred Bob Saget as Danny Tanner, Dave Coulier as Uncle Joey Gladstone, John Stamos as Uncle Jesse Katsopolis, and Lori Loughlin as Aunt Becky. In 2016, most of the cast reunited for the Netflix spinoff series, Fuller House, which ran for five seasons on Netflix and ended in 2020.
