What To Know

  • Of the star-studded cast from the 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express, only Michael York, Jacqueline Bisset, and Vanessa Redgrave are still alive and active in their careers.
  • These surviving actors have continued to work in film, television, and theater, with notable recent projects and ongoing contributions to the arts.
  • The majority of the film’s legendary cast, including Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, and Sean Connery, have passed away over the years.

When Murder on the Orient Express pulled into theaters on November 29, 1974, mystery fans rejoiced. Based on the 1934 novel of the same name by Agatha Christie, the film featured some major names, including Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery and many more, coming together to act out one of the most famous stories featuring Christie’s Hercule Poirot. It was a major hit, earning $36 million on a budget of just over $1 million, and earning Ingrid Bergman her third Academy Award.

Today, only a handful of the film’s stars are still with us — and though they are all in their 80s, none are quite retired yet.

By the time York was cast in Murder on the Orient Express, he was already known for Cabaret and Romeo and Juliet. After the film, he continued working steadily in films such as Logan’s Run and The Three Musketeers and expanded into extensive voice work across animation and video games. His more recent work includes stage productions, audiobook narration and even a role in the Austin Powers series.

York has also been open about living with amyloidosis, a rare condition that affected his voice, and later became an advocate for awareness and research. His most recent role was in the film Dreams, and he has another film in production, proving he is not retiring quite yet.

Jacqueline Bisset (81)

She still takes on roles in both American and European productions, including Loren & Rose and Long Shadows.
