‘Friends’ Spinoff ‘Joey’ Releases 8 Unaired Episodes 2 Decades Later
What To Know
- Eight previously unaired episodes of the Friends spinoff Joey have been released on the official Friends YouTube channel.
- Joey, which followed Matt LeBlanc’s character as he pursued an acting career in Los Angeles, was canceled after its second season.
- Fans expressed excitement and nostalgia on social media.
Friends spinoff Joey just released eight unaired episodes 20 years after the series was canceled. No, this is not a drill.
On November 13, the official Friends Instagram account announced the exciting news.
“East or west coast, Joey is still, well, Joey. 🙃 Did you know that the final eight episodes of #Joey Season 2 never aired in the U.S.?” the update shared. “Now, 21 years later, catch the remaining episodes exclusively on the #FRIENDS YouTube channel!”
Friends — starring Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc — aired for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. That same year, Joey premiered on NBC.
The spinoff followed LeBlanc’s Joey Tribbiani as he moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. However, the series was canceled after Season 2 in 2006. In addition to LeBlanc, Joey featured Andrea Anders, Paulo Costanzo, Jennifer Coolidge, and Drea de Matteo.

In the comments, Instagram users rejoiced over the opportunity to watch eight new Joey episodes on YouTube (for free!) after Season 2 was cut short.
One fan declared, “Oh wow, I forgot about the Joey spinoff! I gotta rewatch it all.”
Another follower shared, “The show was good. People just compare it to Friends, which is not right.”
Someone else pointed out, “This show got really good in season 2,” as a second echoed, “This show was actually SO GOOD. I’m sad it had such a short run.”
A different Instagram user wrote, “I do think it’s nice that they gave Joey his own spinoff, but I find it very hard to watch it because I just don’t feel like it was able to even come close to capturing the magic that Friends had.”
Meanwhile, yet another follower commented, “Was a different show to friends but I still enjoyed it .. it was never given the chance to grow. Glad they’ve finally released the remaining episodes… I’ll deffo be watching them.”
