My Three Sons star Dawn Lyn recently experienced another major health setback after suffering a brain coma.

In October 2022, Lyn, the former child actress behind Dodie Harper Douglas in the beloved ’60s and ’70s sitcom (and also the sister of actor and singer Leif Garrett), underwent non-malignant brain surgery. She, unfortunately, contracted bacterial meningitis and was in a coma for a month.

Although Lyn, 62, seemed to have made positive progress since then — even making a rare public appearance in September — her husband, William John Reese, shared a serious medical update on November 12 via a GoFundMe campaign page.

“Since I last updated, she has been on several trips to the ER for internal bleeding,” Reese revealed. “Last Tuesday, she had a procedure to find out why. Since then, the bleeding has abated and the doctors say it isn’t cancer, but they still aren’t sure about why she had internal hemorrhaging.”

He added, “Otherwise, she’s doing well in upper torso therapy and stretching of her back and lower torso.”

Additionally, Reese thanked fans for their ongoing support through messages and monetary contributions.

“If you sent us a personal message and I haven’t responded, it’s because recent events and days hanging out at the ER or big hospital take their toll,” he continued. “Also, the 82-mile round trip to her care facility involves the busiest freeway in SoCal, making the trip home an average of two hours. I need to be with her daily as much as she counts on me in our symbiotic relationship.”

As of writing, more than $17,000 of the GoFundMe campaign’s $500,000 goal has been raised.

My Three Sons ran for 12 seasons from 1960 to 1972. Lyn was only 6 when she joined the sitcom in 1969 for the last three seasons.

In addition to My Three Sons, Lyn is best known for the ’70s film trilogy, Walking Tall, and appearing in TV shows like Gunsmoke, Mannix, Marcus Welby, M.D., Wonder Woman, and more.
