More tossed salad and scrambled eggs are coming at you soon as the beloved Frasier series is getting its very own reboot. In the age of reboots, it is no surprise that the award-winning sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer is making a return to your television screen. The original series Frasier, a spin-off of Cheers, ran from 1993 to 2004 on NBC. It followed Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) as he started a new radio show and dealt with the tumultuous relationships between himself and his father Martin (John Mahoney) and brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce).

The reboot was first announced back in 2019 when Grammer revealed that he was in talks with writers to make sure it was “really good.” The finale of the original showed Frasier going to Chicago to be with his girlfriend Charlotte (Laura Linney) instead of furthering his career in San Francisco. In July 2022, Grammer said on The Talk, “[They’re] the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the ‘Frasier’ reboot and it looks pretty good. I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so, you know, I’m happy. The key ingredient for the ‘Frasier’ reboot is actually Frasier, honestly. It was always called [Frasier], so it’s me, the key is me.”

Unfortunately for fans, most of the original cast will not be appearing in the reboot. Grammer is set to reprise his role as Frasier, of course, but Mahoney passed away in 2018 and Hyde Pierce turned down the offer to play Niles once again. Jane Leeves (Daphne Moon) and Peri Gilpin (Roz Doyle) have also confirmed that they will not be returning. Bebe Neuwirth, who played Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith will return as a guest star as they share son Freddy. New, more diverse characters will be featured this time. Jack Cutmore-Scott has been cast as Frasier’s son, Freddy. In addition, Nicholas Lyndhurst will play Frasier’s college friend Alan and Toks Olagundoye will portray Alan’s colleague. Freddy’s roommate will be played by Jess Salguerio and Anders Keith will appear as Frasier’s nephew, David.

The Paramount+ social media accounts have shared that Frasier will be returning to Boston, where his character lived during Cheers, although they have not shared any additional details about the plot of the reboot just yet. Grammer added about Frasier and the new series, “He’s our brave little soldier that continues on in life, finding new challenges and a new love and new people and a new city and stuff like that. I’m really very excited about it, and we’ll certainly always honor the past. We have to honor the fact that John Mahoney died and that Martin is no longer with us. We’ll be dealing with that for sure.”

He continued, “He’s going back to Boston because his son lives there. There’s a nod to certainly my father in the show, John Mahoney, there. You’ll see things about John all through the show. I think people will be very happy to see that he’s honored in the way he is in the show.” The first episode will be titled “The Good Father,” a nod to the original pilot “The Good Son.”
