Gremlins 3 was just announced with a 2027 release date — and fans of the 1984 film, Gremlins, and its 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, are screaming over the exciting news.
On Thursday, November 6, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced the upcoming movie during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Variety reported. The theater release date has been set for November 19, 2027, and will mark the first live-action Gremlins film in 37 years.
Chris Columbus will direct and produce Gremlins 3, while Steven Spielberg will return as an executive producer. Additionally, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario will produce for Amblin Entertainment with 26th Street Pictures’ Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. The screenplay will be written by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.
In 1984, Gremlins grossed $165 million worldwide, with the 1990 sequel bringing in $41 million. An animated series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, premiered in 2023; its second season wrapped up in April.
In Gremlins, a boy named Billy (Zach Galligan) gets a furry creature, a Mogwai named Gizmo, as a pet. The horror/comedy film follows them, as well as Billy’s romantic interest, Kate (Phoebe Cates), after breaking the rules of never exposing Gizmo to water or bright light or feeding it after midnight. After the exposure, the Gremlin multiplies in a different mischievous form, and starts destroying their hometown.
The original film also starred Corey Feldman, Dick Miller, Hoyt Axton, Frances Lee McCain, and others. As of writing, neither the cast nor the plot of Gremlins 3 has been revealed.

Pictures, said in a statement, per Deadline. “It’s a privilege to be working alongside Steven, Chris, and the entire creative team, and we look forward to audiences experiencing the next installment of the magic, mayhem, and heart of Gremlins on the big screen in 2027.”
