Stranger Things Season 5 is just around the corner — and fans are debating which characters are in danger of dying after the new trailer dropped.
On Thursday, October 30, Netflix released the highly anticipated trailer for its final season of the beloved ’80s-inspired sci-fi, supernatural drama series. The video finds the Hawkins, Indiana, crew deciding to “end this once and for all,” as Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) put it, after hiding out for an extended period of time as Vecna and the Upside Down took over.
Several characters were shown in imminent peril in the Season 5 trailer.
Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) emotionally embraced in one scene, as Steve and Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) sobbed and held each other while pressing their foreheads together. Additionally, Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton), Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson), and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) all looked pretty concerned at different points in the trailer.
Meanwhile, Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) was backed into a corner by a Demogorgon in one scene and holding an unconscious Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) in an elevator as a creator charged at them in another. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was also shown jumping fences and scaling buildings before unleashing a supernatural power blast while flanked by Jim Hopper (David Harbour).
At the end of the trailer, things didn’t look great for Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), in particular, as Vecna levitated him off the ground and declared, “Will, you are going to help me one last time.”
Between explosions, gunshots, and attacking monsters, no one seemed safe ahead of Season 5. And fans immediately took to social media to speculate about who might die.
On Reddit, many were scared for Will’s fate, with one fan pointing out,”Will can’t catch a break,” and a second lamenting, “He just wanted to play some damn D&D.”
Someone else admitted, “I am more terrified than ever that he isn’t gonna make it. That poor boy 😭.”
A different fan thought Steve might meet his end in Season 5, writing, “The lack of Steve in this trailer has me real nervous for what’s in store for him.”
Another Redditor agreed, speculating, “That hug with Dustin looks to me like Steve about to go on a kamikaze mission. Which I hate because I love Steve and want him to live.”
However, someone else commented, “Idk, it looks to me like Steve is safe, but something else tragic has happened.”
A different Redditor asked, “Anyone else concerned for Jonathan’s life…..”
Meanwhile, yet another Reddit user predicted, “I actually don’t think Steve will die. Idk, but Nancy and Jonathan. One or both of them is very marked for death, just the vibe I got from this trailer. I think Karen [Wheeler (Cara Buono)] might be cooked too.”
The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 (Volume 1) hit Netflix on November 26, followed by three episodes in Volume 2 on Christmas Day. On New Year’s Eve, the Season 5 finale will drop. Each batch premieres at 5 p.m. PT.
