Boris Karloff & Bela Lugosi
TCM, beginning at 8pm

Everett Collection
Spend the evening and beyond with horror legends Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi as TCM features five spine-chilling films from its library. First up is The Black Cat (1934), based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story. An architect and psychiatrist (Karloff and Lugosi), old rivals, square off with an innocent couple caught in the middle. Next is Son of Frankenstein (1939), a sequel to the original in which Karloff reprises his role as the Monster, and Basil Rathbone plays the son of the doctor who tries to revive the Monster with the help of his assistant Ygor (Lugosi). Following is The Body Snatcher (1945), in which Karloff plays a cab driver responsible for obtaining corpses for a doctor (Henry Daniell). Next is The Invisible Ray (1936), in which a mad scientist (Karloff) becomes lethally radioactive after discovering a new element, which drives him to seek revenge on those he believes have wronged him. Wrapping things up is You’ll Find Out (1940), a mystery/comedy that also features Peter Lorre. Bandleader Kay Kyser and his orchestra get caught up in a mysterious plot to murder a young heiress when they are hired to play at her birthday party in a spooky old mansion.

Two for One: Paul Giamatti
TCM, beginning at 8pm

Everett Collection
In tonight’s re-airing of the Ben Mankiewicz-hosted series, Mankiewicz is joined by actor Paul Giamatti, who introduces two films of his choosing. Giamatti will offer commentary on each title’s cultural significance and its influence on other films, behind-the-scenes stories, and his own personal reflections on them. The first film is Carnival of Souls (1962), a story about a young woman who, after surviving a car accident, is haunted by a mysterious, ghoulish figure and is inexplicably drawn to an abandoned carnival pavilion. Next is the horror classic Rosemary’s Baby (1968), a thriller written and directed by Roman Polanski and starring Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes, about a young newlywed who becomes pregnant and begins to suspect that her eccentric neighbors are part of a satanic cult with a sinister plan for her unborn child.

Sundays With Hitch
TCM, beginning at 8pm

Everett Collection
Every Sunday this October, TCM will air two classic Alfred Hitchcock thrillers: First tonight, in Psycho (1960), exhausted and with thousands of dollars in stolen money in tow, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) makes the fatal mistake of checking into the Bates Motel, run by a peculiar innkeeper named Norman (Anthony Perkins). Then, in Shadow of a Doubt (1943), a teenage girl (Teresa Wright) begins to suspect her uncle (Joseph Cotten) is the “Merry Widow” serial killer, who authorities are seeking to apprehend.
New spooky TV series premiering with nostalgic roots
IT: Welcome to Derry
HBO, 9pm
Set in the world of Stephen King’s IT universe, the nine-episode first season expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two. “I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara,” King said. “Red balloons all around!”
