How Well Do You Remember ‘The Golden Girls’ Dorothy Zbornak?

Golden Girls Dorothy Beau Arthur Trivia image
Everett Collection

Wry, witty, and withering, Dorothy was the Golden Girl who was always ready with a perfect punchline. And why wouldn’t she be? She was played by Bea Arthur, who was already a TV comedy legend after her Emmy-winning turn as the star of ’70s Norman Lear sitcom Maude. Seven years after Maude wrapped, Arthur returned to the small screen as The Golden Girls‘ Dorothy Zbornak, a schoolteacher who got dumped after 38 years of marriage, when her husband hooked up with a young stewardess on a business trip to Maui

Though Dorothy wasn’t above complaining about her situation (she said of her ex’s life in Hawaii, “I hope he trips on his thongs and falls into a volcano”), she adjusted to a new life with Rose, Blanche, and her mother, Sophia, with aplomb.

But how much do you really remember about Dorothy — or “Pussycat,” as Sophia would put it? Get out some cheesecake, and get ready to put your wisdom to the test.
