When Will TCM Air Its Tribute to Robert Redford?
Hollywood lost a legend when iconic actor Robert Redford passed away at age 89 on September 16, 2025. Known for his unforgettable roles in films ranging from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to The Sting, the actor-turned-filmmaker left an indelible mark on cinema.
While celebrated for his work in front of the camera, his influence extended far beyond acting, most notably through his creation of the Sundance Film Festival, which helped shape independent filmmaking for generations.

Recently, Turner Classic Movies — a renowned purveyor of all things good and often considered the last bastion of cinematic preservation — was asked on X (formerly Twitter) when it would honor Redford with a fitting tribute:
“WHEN is TCS going to have a Robert Redford day? You haven’t shown anything since he passed away. #RobertRedford,” wrote an X user to American television journalist and the host for Turner Classic Movies, Ben Mankiewicz.

In response, Mankiewicz replied: “Hello…excellent question. Getting it a lot. We’re planning a Robert Redford tribute as we speak. It takes some time for us to license the movies – and then we need to shoot the intros. That’s why we seldom do these tributes quickly. But I think we do them well. Thx for asking.”

TCM is preparing a tribute, but the exact timing and lineup remain up in the air. Fans can expect an official announcement soon, detailing when the programming will air and which films and possible archival interviews will be featured.
TCM has aired many of Redford’s movies as part of its regular programming. When major film icons pass away, TCM often curates special tributes or marathons of their most significant work, so a Redford tribute would be very much in line with how the network honors film legends.
