Danny Bonaduce’s Dad Made Shirley Jones ‘Really Uncomfortable’ on ‘Partridge Family’ Set
It wasn’t always fun family times on the set of The Partridge Family. In an interview on The Real Brady Bros podcast, actor Danny Bonaduce opened up about working on the show and even admitted that his father, Joseph, was banned from the set of the hit show after he made Shirley Jones feel “really uncomfortable.”
He explained on the podcast, “My dad was also banned from the set of The Partridge Family. He thought Shirley Jones liked him a lot more than she did. He took it as a badge of honor,” adding that his father told him, “I’ve been kicked out of better places than The Partridge Family.”

Allegedly, Joseph, who was a writer and producer himself, was banned from the set sometime during Season 2 and even got into a fight with David Cassidy during that time. Prior, he worked as a writer for hit shows such as The Andy Griffith Show, That Girl and One Day at a Time. He reportedly got into a fight with Bonnie Franklin on the set of One Day at a Time after she changed one of his jokes during a live performance of the show. He stormed off and was instructed never to come back after his bad behavior.
Bonaduce added, “He was mean about a lot of stuff. But people really wanted to hire him that were willing to put up with some of his craziness.” Despite the awkwardness, Jones and the younger Bonaduce still maintained a strong bond.

She once shared in an interview, “Danny was a true comedian. I mean, at that age, it was amazing, his comedy timing was so incredible. It was a major part of making the show. Danny was the sort of between David … David doing the, you know, the teenage idol, and Danny being the comedy. And so many of the shows were kind of written around him, you know, for the humor.”
