When Gunsmoke first rode onto TV screens on September 10, 1955, no one could have predicted it would run for 20 years and more than 600 episodes — or that the show would still be airing daily on multiple TV channels 70 years later. At the heart of it all was James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon, keeping the peace in Dodge City. Alongside him were unforgettable characters like saloon owner Kitty Russell, played by Amanda Blake, and loyal friends Chester, Festus and Doc. Week after week, viewers watched as Dillon beat the bad guys and kept the Western town safe.

Even decades after its finale, Gunsmoke remains one of the most beloved Westerns of all time. The show remains a staple of classic TV lineups, and new generations continue to discover Dodge City through reruns and streaming. If you’re looking to settle in and watch Matt Dillon take on outlaws, here’s where you can still find the show today, including special airings for its 70th anniversary.
