Which ’70s Sitcom Star Would ‘Absolutely Revisit’ Their Famous Character?

The ’70s were filled with iconic sitcom character, but one that truly ruled the decade was the Fonz on Happy Days, played by Henry Winkler. Winkler, now 79, has gone on to a long career that has involved appearances in films like Scream and TV shows like Barry, which won him his first Emmy in 2018. But the actor recently revealed that Fonzie remains close to his heart, and he would be open to playing his character once again if he ever got the chance.

He said, in his best Fonz voice, “I would do the Fonz retired, absolutely. Grandchildren … lot of fun, very difficult, but you get to give ‘em back!” In a previous interview, he joked that although he would be interested in reprising his role, he would certainly need a new wardrobe. He added, “Let me just say if there was, they would have to get me an expandable zipper [for Fonzie’s iconic leather jacket]. “I don’t know if I would fit in that same jacket.”

Unfortunately for Winkler and fans, his former costar Ron Howard has continuously shot down rumors of a revival or reboot. He explained, “The fact that the show endures … it kind of blows my mind in an interesting way. There’s something about that that doesn’t age — it was nostalgia when it was made.”

Here’s to hoping that, even though it doesn’t sound like we will get Grandpa Fonz on our TVs anytime soon, that maybe Winkler would reprise his role in a video for social media. He remains close with several of his castmates including Howard, Don Most and Anson Williams, so they could make an appearance too. If you’d love to see it, comment below.
