Who’s Still Alive From ‘Touched By An Angel’?

It’s been over a quarter-century since Touched by an Angel aired from 1994 to 2003, running for nine seasons and 211 episodes. The uplifting CBS drama followed angels sent to help people at pivotal moments in their lives, with Monica (Roma Downey) as the compassionate angel-in-training, guided by the wise and loving Tess (Della Reese). Andrew (John Dye) later joined as the gentle Angel of Death, and Gloria (Valerie Bertinelli) was introduced in the show’s final two seasons. The series became known for its heartfelt messages and moving guest star performances. Which Touched by an Angel cast members are still with us today, and who have we sadly lost?

Roma Downey (65)

Roma Downey, born May 6, 1960, in Northern Ireland, played Monica, the angel-in-training whose heartfelt guidance touched millions of viewers. After the series ended, Downey remained active in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera. She co-produced the hit miniseries The Bible and its follow-up film Son of God with her husband, Mark Burnett, and authored several inspirational books. As of 2025, she continues producing faith-based projects through her company, LightWorkers Media, and often speaks publicly about her faith and career. She also recent appeared in The Baxters.

Valerie Bertinelli (65)

Valerie Bertinelli, born April 23, 1960, joined Touched by an Angel in 2001 as Gloria, a new caseworker angel learning the ropes alongside Monica and Tess. Already a household name from One Day at a Time, Bertinelli brought new fans to the show. After it ended, she starred in TV movies, became a beloved Food Network host with shows like Valerie’s Home Cooking, and published several memoirs. Later, she was also known for starring in the series Hot in Cleveland, and fans know her for her marriage to the late Eddie Van Halen, with whom she shared a son named Wolfgang. She has also been open about her personal journey, discussing health, relationships and self-acceptance with fans.

Della Reese (Tess) died November 19, 2017, at age 86 in Los Angeles after a long illness. Reese had a remarkable career as a singer, actress, talk show host, and ordained minister.
