‘Land of the Lost’ Creator Sid Krofft Turns 96: Puppet Icon Is Alive, Well, On Cameo — And Wants Your Birthday Tributes

One of the most creative minds in television celebrates his birthday today on July 30: Sid Krofft is 96! The entertainment icon who created shows like H.R. Pufnstufand Land of the Lost with now-deceased brother Marty is thriving as he approaches his century mark.
In the early hours of his 96th birthday, his official Instagram account encouraged fans to celebrate. “He would love birthday videos to wake up to,” it wrote. “All birthday videos you tag him in will be shared in his stories (he watches them ALL day!) Let’s make this the best 96th birthday!!”

Sid can also be part of your birthday plans. The puppeteer and television legend is not only active on social media: he’s available on Cameo!
“Fans often request Sid to share fun facts and behind-the-scenes stories about their classic productions, with a special focus on the shows’ beloved characters and memorable moments,” reads his official page on the celebrity video message app. Sid loves to connect with fans who grew up watching his creations. And he’s “always happy to offer encouragement and advice to budding young puppeteers who’ve been inspired by their work.”
“Whether it’s wishing someone a happy birthday, reminiscing about their cult classic creations, or just sharing their passion for puppetry, Sid’s personalized videos are a must for any true Krofft fan!” reads his bio.

And it’s true: television became a much colorful and cooler place thanks to Sid and his brother, Marty Krofft. Together, they created such unforgettable shows as H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
Saturday morning just wasn’t complete without a show like Far Out Space Nuts (featuring Gilligan’s Island star Bob Denver), The Bugaloos (with silver screen icon Martha Raye) or Lidsville (with Charles Nelson Reilly). These shows featured Sid and Marty’s trademark puppets, but the brothers branched out into live-action shows, like Richard Pryor‘s Pryor’s Place, Pink Lady and Jeff, and The Brady Bunch Hour.
Sid and Marty’s work never truly left pop culture. In the early 1990s, ABC aired a remake of Land of the Lost, starring Tim Bottoms (Johnny Got His Gun, The Last Picture Show). In 2009, Will Ferrell starred in a movie adaptation of the prehistoric series. And in June 2025, The Hollywood Reporter said a Land of the Lost reboot might come to Netflix!
In the meantime: Happy Birthday, Sid Krofft!
