Barbra Streisand Reflects on Blind Date With James Brolin in Sweet Tribute on 27th Wedding Anniversary

Barbra Streisand and James Brolin have been a Hollywood power couple for 27 years — but as she revealed in a sweet Instagram post celebrating their anniversary, the two major stars didn’t meet at an Oscars party or film project; the pair originally connected via an old-fashioned blind date.
Streisand posted a photo of the couple on Instagramand wrote, “We met on a blind date 29 years ago tonight, and we married 27 years ago today. I love you honey. B xo. ❤️”
Streisand once revealed on The Tonight Show that they were set up during a dinner party. She recalled, according to PEOPLE, “We were set up as a blind date, and I was so shy that I came into the house and I went downstairs to be with the children and play with them until I had to sit down at the table. I expected a guy with a brown beard and brown, wavy hair, like a mountain man. And I saw a guy that had all his hair cut off, no beard. And I walked by him. I put my hand through his hair and said, ‘Who f—– up your hair?’ ”

Exactly two years later, on July 1, 1998, they got married in her backyard in Malibu. It was a star-studded affair, but the heart of it was simple. Streisand even serenaded Brolin with two love songs she’d written just for the day. Brolin said in his wedding speech, “I can’t tell you how lucky I am that this would happen to me so late in life. Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can’t wait to see her again in the morning.”
Brolin’s reluctance to sleep due to his love for Streisand actually inspired one of the most popular rock songs of the ’90s: in a 1997 20/20 interview, Streisand revealed that Brolin had once told her “I don’t want to fall asleep … cause I’ll miss you.” Songwriter Diane Warren was watching, and later incorporated the line into the 1998 hit she penned for Aerosmith, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”
While both Streisand and Brolin had children from previous marriages, they blended their families with care. Streisand has embraced Brolin’s kids, and he’s developed a close bond with her son, Jason. In recent years, Streisand and Brolin have even celebrated grandparenting moments together at ages 83 and 84, respectively.
Happy anniversary to the lovely couple!
